Great Product

My wife bought these for me for fathers day and i love them. The case and neck strap are well made and comfortable. The glass is crystal clear as i have come to expect from Leupold. The only binos i have ever owned and will ever need hands down.

Very Good overall binoculars

The BX4 8x42 Guide HD came into my possession because of Leupold's phenomenal customer service. They replaced free of charge a pair of similar BX3 8x42s that I damaged after falling during a hunt. These BX4s are definitely better quality optics than the predecessors. Sharper, clearer. The glass is getting up there with Swarovski in clarity, and I give it 5 stars. Obviously the price is not up there (basic Swaro 8x42s are $2,500 to start). Couple of things can be improved here. First the eyepiece covers. The bottoms come off too easily, and the top only comes off with great effort, and by then your critter has moved on. A lot of the problem with the top cover has to do with the very sticky rubber used to make the eyepieces. The covers stick to this sticky surface, which does have a better tactile touch. Change one or the other, cover or eyepiece material, but something has to change. Second is the central diopter. This is the same design that broke on the BX3. To be fair, all 265 pound of me fell directly on it, pinning the diopter between my chest and a nice hard hunk of mountain laurel stem. But the two-part design of this turning wheel lends itself to being more easily separated than a unibody style. Another thing, it's probably user error responsible for me struggling so much to get this thing calibrated to my eyesight, but the directions that come with it are very general one-size-fits-all-models, which means I can't figure out my own BX4. Somehow this adjustment just seems tougher to figure out than any other binoculars I have or have had. Finally, the two-tone case looks cool, and fits and adjusts very well. Nice sand color now so popular after our Middle East "adventures" got us all hooked on military desert colors. But the sides of the case are thin, unprotected nylon material. Compare this to the really ugly Nikon carry bag for their Monarch binoculars. The nondescript Nikon bag is all neoprene, all the way around, so no matter what, it provides a nice s...
